Full Tear-Off Roof Replacement in Seattle’s Ravenna Neighborhood

January 31, 2026

Some roofs don’t fail loudly.

They just quietly stop doing their job.

That was the case with this Ravenna-area home in Seattle. The roof had reached the point where it wasn’t leaking yet—but it was clearly running out of runway. With Seattle rain being what it is, waiting wasn’t a great option.

So we got to work.

What We Were Dealing With

This home has a busy roof layout—multiple slopes, valleys, skylights, and transitions. Those details look great, but they also mean more places for water to sneak in if everything isn’t done correctly.

Once we removed the old roofing, we found some tired decking in a few areas. Nothing unexpected for a roof of this age, but definitely something that needed to be handled before moving forward.

Skipping it would’ve been faster.

Fixing it was the right call.

What We Installed (and Why It Matters)

This was a full tear-off and full-system replacement, built specifically for Seattle’s wet climate.

  • CertainTeed Landmark PRO architectural shingles in Cinder Black
  • Complete tear-off down to the roof deck
  • Ice & Water Shield at eaves, valleys, and penetrations
  • Synthetic underlayment across the rest of the roof
  • Decking replacement where structural integrity was compromised
  • Open W-valley metal flashing (26-gauge steel) for better drainage
  • New drip edge and starter metal along all edges
  • Balanced ventilation system with Smart Intake Vents and a filtered ridge vent
  • Skylight re-flashing to eliminate future leak points
  • New galvanized plumbing and exhaust vents

No gimmicks. Just a solid, well-built roofing system from the deck up.

Why Ventilation Was a Big Deal Here

In Seattle, moisture is always lurking. Without proper airflow, it gets trapped in the attic, shortens shingle life, and causes problems you don’t see until they’re expensive.

By upgrading both intake and exhaust ventilation, this roof can now breathe properly. That means:

  • Less condensation
  • Longer shingle life
  • A healthier attic space

Your roof shouldn’t feel like it’s holding its breath all year.

The Final Result

The finished roof has:

They might make a roof look clean fast, but they also:

  • Clean lines and strong curb appeal
  • Proper water flow through valleys
  • Modern ventilation that meets current code
  • And most importantly—peace of mind through Seattle winters

It’s the kind of roof you forget about.

And that’s the goal.
